Waste and Recycling Drops to Fifth Most Dangerous Occupation

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its annual Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) for 2024, reporting 5,070 fatal work injuries nationwide, down 4% from 2023. The fatal injury rate also declined to 3.3 per 100,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) workers, compared to 3.5 the year prior.
